Casa Libre Seeks Workshop Proposals for Spring, Summer, Fall 2014

Writers! What have you always wanted to explore in a classroom environment with people interested in art and inquiry?

Casa Libre is seeking proposals from community members who want to teach writing workshops in 2014. Casa Libre’s mission is to cultivate and enrich a vibrant community of writers and artists through the invention, presentation, and appreciation of creative work. One of the ways we do this is by holding workshops for community members with all levels of experience with writing.

Workshops are malleable in terms of topic and time frame. Some of our most recent workshops include: Family Dinner; the intricacies of sustenance a writing & cooking workshop w/ Emily Stern; Writing the Threshold: Poetry in Transitional Spaces w/Ian Ellasante; and Short Prose Forms: a writing weekend with Rebecca Brown. Workshops can last from one half day to two-eight weeks. Casa Libre advertises workshops on our website, at events, and in our newsletter; however, we also ask that our workshop teachers publicize and recruit for their workshops. Workshop teachers retain 60 percent of tuition collected and Casa retains 40 percent. Casa Libre students tend to be writers who are already studied in their craft and who are interested in expanding their knowledge and horizons; which is to say, that one of the things teachers say they most appreciate about teaching at Casa Libre is the depth of conversation and the quality of discussion over the course of a class period.

Are you in? If you are interested in proposing a workshop, the first step is to send a proposal with the name of your workshop and a one paragraph description. The description should include: the content of the course, genre, the experience level of participants, the proposed time length of the course  (each session and total), price range for participants, and some potential days/dates.

Deadline for Spring Workshop Proposals:  Feb. 10
Deadline for Summer Workshop Proposals: March 10
Deadline for Fall Workshop Proposals: May 10
