Casa Libre's primary reason for existence is to provide the academic, non-profit, and literary community unique accommodations where writers and scholars may find supportive refuge in a stimulating atmosphere—a place to work, relax, and ultimately create. Casa's suites offer a soulful alternative to the ever homogenous choice of lodgings for the masses. Casa Libre provides the perfect balance of getting out of the city while staying in the city—an atmosphere where thinkers and writers can thrive.

At the heart of our work is our Self-Directed Residency program, through which we are able to provide writers of all levels of experience and background a free "room of one's own" away from their daily lives and the traps of a too familiar pace and space. Casa Libre understands that writing can be a lonely business. Through our residency programs we give writers the opportunity to reconnect with their literary family and their own work while utilizing our fully furnished and outfitted suites, comfortable courtyards, pool and hot-tub, library and advantageous downtown location. We also offer opportunities for group residencies and rent suites to local non-profit, literary, and academic institutions to help host their writing and scholarly guests. Below we give a brief description of our three suite opportunities; please refer to the links above for detailed information about each program and the amenities and accommodations offered in the suites.

Self-Directed Residencies: Residents may apply at three different times of the year to be awarded a free 10 to 24 day residency in one of our two writing suites. Open Enrollment periods are available in the spring, summer and fall of each year—with dates varying according to calendar changes.

Suite Rental: Casa Libre does not rent its suites to the general public. We offer our suites to local non-profits, literary groups, and academic institutions who may rent a suite from Casa Libre (at below market rates) to host their visiting scholars, poets and writers, artists, and lecturers. Casa Libre will never make more than two suites available at one time for these local groups to use, so all rentals to these groups is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Advance reservations are strongly recommended! The reservation/application process is explained here.
