Cost: $30

Class Description

This three hour workshop will explore how poetry is used as a vehicle to push us towards internal renovation and renewal. Examining a handful of contemporary poems by such authors as Louise Glück, Jimmy Santiago Baca, Joy Harjo. Sharon Olds, Jack Gilbert, and Mary Oliver, we will ask questions of ourselves and others: How can poetry be transformative? How can it be used as a mechanism for healing and for growth? How can it rejuvenate our lives and assuage our grief? What do these poems ignite in us and how do we utilize this energy in our own work? How do these authors achieve their desired effects? Open to poets of all levels of experience, this workshop will offer time for discussion, brainstorming, and optional sharing of the work we produce.
