Family Dinner; the intricacies of sustenance
a writing & cooking workshop w/ Emily Stern

Saturday, December 14
10a.m. to 8p.m.

Cost: $20-$40 (sliding scale)

In this one-day, two-part Creative Nonfiction and cooking workshop, participants will explore the intersections of nurturance, starvation, celebration, and familial mythos through written, oral, and epicurean explorations.

The first half of the day will be guided writing exercises and facilitated work-shopping. The latter half will be the preparation of favorite family recipes and a sit-down dinner celebration with oral storytelling about food and our families.

10am-Noon: Writing Workshop
Noon-1pm: Lunch Break
1pm-4pm: Writing Workshop
4pm-7pm: Cooking on your own for dinner
7pm-9pm: Dinner and Storytelling

Teacher Bio:

Emily Stern is a mother, teacher, writer and chef, currently residing in Santa Fe, NM. She’s in the final revision of Into Red Blooms, her memoir about her childhood and her mother’s death from AIDS 1993. She has been writing, performing, and teaching for over twenty years- credits include: The Sex Worker’s Art Show National Tour, The Transfused, Ladyfest Olympia and Los Angeles, Make/Shift Magazine, The Femmolition Derby, Wise Fool New Mexico, Santa Fe Art Institute, and The Rock and Roll Camp for Girls. She has an MFA from Goddard College in Creative Nonfiction with a critical emphasis on women and AIDS in literature.
